Thanksgiving in Colorado: Why I Love This Time of Year

Hey friends! With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I couldn’t help but reflect on how magical Colorado is during this season—and honestly, every season. There’s always something to do here, whether it’s a turkey trot, hitting the slopes, or just enjoying the fresh mountain air. I wanted to share some fun happenings in our favorite towns like Boulder, Golden, Evergreen, Breckenridge, Vail, and Aspen.

If you’re looking for ideas to make your Thanksgiving extra special (or just want an excuse to burn off some pie before you eat it), check this out:

Boulder: Thanksgiving Vibes with a Side of Adventure

  • Turkey Trot at Boulder Reservoir: This is THE way to kick off Thanksgiving morning—running (or walking) with gorgeous views of the Flatirons. They’ve got a 5K, 10K, and even a fun run for kids!
  • Farmers Market: Forgot a side dish? Boulder’s Thanksgiving market has fresh produce, baked goods, and handmade treats. Perfect for last-minute shoppers like me. 😅

Golden: Small-Town Charm

  • Light Up the Town: Golden’s downtown is already glowing with holiday lights. It’s so magical—perfect for a post-dinner stroll with family.
  • DIY Turkey Trot: No official run here, but the trails around North Table Mountain are AMAZING. Bonus: you’ll earn that extra slice of pumpkin pie!

Evergreen: Cozy Mountain Feels

  • Evergreen Turkey Trot: This 5K is the epitome of small-town charm, with stunning mountain views to boot.
  • Peaceful Hikes: If you’re not into running, hit the trails at Three Sisters Park or Alderfer Ranch. There’s something about the crisp air and golden sunsets here that makes me feel extra grateful.

Breckenridge: Thanksgiving on the Slopes

  • Turkey Day 5K: Whether you’re running or walking, this family-friendly event is a Breck classic.
  • Ski Season Is ON: If you’re itching to ski, Breck’s Peak 8 and other runs are usually open by Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect way to work up an appetite!

Vail: Thanksgiving in Style

  • Eagle-Vail Turkey Trot: This community 5K is always a feel-good event—it even supports local charities!
  • Thanksgiving Feasts: After a day on the slopes, treat yourself to dinner at one of Vail’s amazing restaurants like The 10th. (Seriously, the views and food are worth it.)

Aspen: A Winter Wonderland

  • Aspen Valley Turkey Trot: A 5K run through Aspen is the perfect way to soak in the mountain vibes.
  • Ski Openings: By Thanksgiving, Aspen Mountain and Snowmass have plenty of runs open. Pro tip: Big Burn is a favorite early in the season!

Why I Love Colorado Year-Round

Honestly, every season in Colorado is incredible. Fall has those gorgeous golden aspens, winter is all about fresh powder and cozy fires, spring brings wildflowers, and summer is endless outdoor adventures. But Thanksgiving might be my favorite—it’s the perfect mix of gratitude, fun traditions, and the kickoff to ski season.

My Thanksgiving Plans

We’re planning to hit a turkey trot in the morning (wish me luck!), then spend the rest of the day with family, eating way too much and probably falling asleep early. And if the slopes are calling, we’ll sneak in some skiing over the weekend.

What are you all up to this Thanksgiving? If you’re in Colorado, try out one of these fun events or just get outside and soak up the beauty. Wherever you are, I hope you have an amazing holiday filled with love, laughter, and plenty of pie. 🥧

If you ever dream of making Colorado your forever home—or just want to chat about why it’s the best place to live—hit me up! I’d love to help you make it happen. 🏔️ 🏡

Happy Thanksgiving! 🍂
